The Special Services Department accepts referrals from parents and school personnel for requests to conduct initial evaluations to determine whether a student is eligible for special education and related services.

District programs for students eligible for special education and related services include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Resource programs providing students with small group instruction and/or in-class support
• Special class programs serving students with similar educational needs
• An extended school year program
• A Preschool Disability program

Other services and programs are provided according to individual student needs as determined by their Individualized Education Program (IEP). Child study team staff work closely with parents and school staff to provide the best possible opportunities for students with disabilities.

The Somers Point Special Services Department does not permit the use of electronic mail to submit requests to school officials regarding referral, identification, evaluation, classification, and the provision of free, appropriate public education. Please forward all requests either written or typed to the Special Services Department.
